Message 235: Set the World to Rights

Chris Churmusi emailed Pulk-Pull* with the following information:

I noticed something interesting while re-reading The Iliad. In Robert Fagles translation,

So in the years to come Poseidon and god Apollo
would set all things to rights once more. (12.41-42)

In “2+2=5” the song opens with the lyrics:

Are you such a dreamer?
To put the world to rights?
I’ll stay home forever
Where two & two always
makes up five

The passage from the Iliad comes when the Acheans are beaten back to their ships, and the gods destroy the ditches and barriers that were built. And soon, nothing will remain or remind people what was there, just sand and water.
